The scientific name of Bald Eagles is Haliaeetus leucocephalus, which means “white-headed sea eagle.”
About 80-90% of newborn Bald Eagles die each year, so the longevity of the species is uncertain.
In the 18th century there were about 50,000 nesting Bald Eagles on the territory of modern USA.
Bald Eagles mate for life and every family builds its own nest in the top of a large tree. Usually Bald Eagles’ nests are found near rivers, marshes, lakes and other wetland areas. It provides a reliable food sources and isolation from humans.
